In the spring of 2021 I kickstarted a foreign journey by signing up with a coaching company called Destroy The Hairdresser. Being completely unaware of the amazing benefits coaching would actually provide, I half expected having a business coach to mean I would vent about business ownership and the collective industry struggles we were all perpetually cycling through (with very little progression in our careers). Little did I know they were actually a company that would be educating me on all the mistakes of our industry from the past 50 years, but that they would also guide me through implementing future-proof methods for my salon.

So, obviously, I jumped head first into the craziest risk I had ever been presented with, only to find out I actually had the best mentor and cheerleader I could ever have had in my corner. I was patiently led through the process of adapting modern concepts to eliminate those long-time frustrations, and completely restructured how our salon operated with future-proof methods. Within my first two months of working directly with my coach, I had drop-kicked my old wimpy business structure into oblivion, and adapted a new concept foundation that changed EVERYTHING. This is when it became clear to me that we had reached a revolutionary turning point.

Et voilà, before I knew it we had successfully overcome all the odds, transformed our perceived value as artistic professionals, and elevated our culture to embody a modern salon experience. Through this I had to learn how to step through my vulnerability, find boundaries, and build with consistency; all while showing up with conscious leadership for my team. Let’s not brush over the fact this was quite possibly some of the most profound growth I had EVER had to surrender to in my professional development. Alas, it showed me how to reach beyond my abilities as a stylist behind the chair, and ignite an entirely new vision for what my salon would strive towards.

Flash forward to 2023 – our team has tripled in size, our physical space has doubled thanks to a gorgeous expansion, we are thriving under an all-inclusive hourly pricing structure, and we no longer accept gratuity; all while offering genderless services. This framework provides our team with all the best parts of our industry, giving us a Destroy The Hairdresser concept salon. Through this philosophy, we have created a space with opportunities for others to grow, learn, and EARN in a way that supports our stylists in modern fashion. When we decided it was time to leave the old ways behind, and change the way we think, we were able to change everything about the way we work. This helped us understand our capacity for success, and this is how we choose to salon differently at Införa Hair Studio.
